Inka showing in VeteranInka - Black bitch

Inka was a delightful puppy, it was love at first sight. . A compact bundle of fun, she scampered about full of her own importance, but always very feminine. . As a jet black puppy there was no stopping her in the show ring, and she gained her 'Junior Warrant' very quickly. . Later, however, when her silver frosting appeared the judges wouldn't place her. . Several said to me that they couldn't see the bitch for her colour. . Tired of being beaten by inferior bitches we retired her until she became a veteran.
Although only moderately successful in the show ring, she has proved invaluable as a collecting dog being one of the best we have.
. She has also been a very successful mother, albeit late in life. . Having mated her two years running with no puppies being conceived, I didn't pay much attention when Brynge our oldest dog and she got together. . Seven weeks after the mating I thought she was putting on a bit of weight, and just to be on the safe side I took her down to the vets. . Expecting two puppies was the verdict - this at the grand old age of seven! . In the event she went one better and produced three. . Now, at the age of ten she still collects with enthusiasm, potters around the garden, keeps the others in order, and sunbathes on the patio.

Ike - Wheaten dog

Ike was the complete opposite of Inka. . A big bold dog, he spent the first half of his life in Spalding with his parents. . Eventually, however, Carolyn asked me to find Ike a new home, as 'Stig became jealous of him. . He went to live in Cumbria where his grandmother had died shortly before. . At his new home Sally wrote a poem about him.
