Norwegian Buhund Club Show 30th March 2003 My thanks to the club and exhibitors who made my day by bringing out some lovely dogs to judge. It would seem the girls are not too happy showing in this hall, as they more than the dogs, were loathe at times to use their ears. Hopefully, this is not true for the outside shows! Movement has improved tremendously in this breed in the last 5 years and also far fewer ‘overly refined’ types present as well, good for you! Temperaments were fine and all the dogs were presented in clean condition. I do hope, however, you will have a look at your dog’s molars. A number of them would benefit from having their teeth cleaned for the forthcoming show season. Minor Puppy Dog No Enties Puppy Dog. No entries Junior Dog 1st Meadows’ Olpenden D’Zul over Shamead 14 month old with fairly typical outline, light build, correct coat, ok tail carriage. Excellent eyes and ears. Pleasing rear and side gait, needs to firm in front; 2nd Williams’ Fullani Finza 17month old with excellent head properties/proportions, though eyes are a shade bold. VG front, excellent coat, tight curl to tail but could be a shade higher set. A bit long in back for me and needs to settle on the move . Has excellent rear feet. Special Yearling Dog. 1st Sercombe’s Trelowen Pistyll18 month old with typical outline and balance for an adolescent; excellent tail and forequarters. Good bone, legs and feet. Head properties are oveall good, but would prefer a darker eye. Has VG balance of skull to muzzle. Conformation is overall VG and moves with the desired light true action. 2nd Olpenden D’Zul over Shamead Novice Dog 1st Olpenden D’Zul over Shamead. Post Graduate Dog 1st Trelowen Pistyll. Limit Dog 1st Deacon, Deacon &Cobb’s Knytshall Q’mfree 2 ½ year old black dog who still needs time to develop in head, but has all the essentials there. He was loath to use his ears, but I saw enough to consider them OK for set. Lovely balance overall and correct proportions to this dog. Excellent front and rear, having balanced angulation. VG level topline and tail. Excellent bone, legs and feet. On the move has a very eye catching sound movement that is effortless. You feel that this dog can do a day’s work, with his sufficient bone and body that is in hard condition. Finally in the challenge he did use his ears, was more focused and gave a better performance than during his class. Reserve Best Dog. Open Dog 1st Houston & Stirling’s Ch. Arnscroft Di-HARD this dog caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring and did not disappoint during examination.23 month old youngster with excellent outline, correct coat, body shape, excellent legs, bone and feet. Has masculine expression but still retaining the required lean head. VG eye and ears well set and used. Moves very well with great ease, so I feel this dog as well could do a day’s work. Another one in hard muscular condition. His overall balance and movement won the class. In the challenge for BIS his gait and tail took him to the top. Best Dog andBest in Show 2nd Deuchar’s Ch. Fullani Flekkefjord. 5 yr. Old not quite as compact as class winner. Has excellent bone, legs, feet and is in hard muscular condition. Excellent head and expression. OK tail, VG rear and side gait. 3rd Hussey’s Trelowen Pymp for Danwro 4 yr. Male who is a shade long cast and as a result, topline is not always level. Has lovely expression with desired masculine but not overdone head. VG front, VG bone, legs and feet. Tail set needs to be a shade higher and tighter curl. Pleasing rear movement. Veteran Dog 1st Deucher’s Ch./Ir.Ch. Wolden Just in Time almost 11 years old and can still give the youngsters a run for their money. Retaining a lot of excellent breed type, with VG outline, bone, legs and feet. Excellent head and expression with desired dark eyes and well used ears. Tail could be a teensy bit higher set. Nice side action on the move, and going over reveals a dog in good hard condition. Best Veteran in Show 2nd Beaton’s Trelowen Sendal 8 yr. Old happy dog with lots to like, esp. in the temperament department! Excellent coat, and legs. Masculine head but would like a darker and less bold eye. His front and back angulation don‘t quite match, so as a result, he tends to crab on the move. A bit less in the body department would help as well Minor Puppy Bitch No Entries Puppy Bitch No Entries Junior Bitch 1st Coleopy’s Fullani Fraena. 15 month old girl with excellent breed type for head and expression. Lovely feminine outlook, but not weedy or too fine. Was a real trial for her handler in getting her to use her ears and tail, but she got there in the end. Correct light structure throughout, VG shoulder lay, forehand, legs and feet, lovely neckline to correct topline and has an excellent coat. Gives light true action 2nd Stonton’s Chayanda Mystique14 month old with overall nice outline, a shade long so topline was a bit soft at times. Excellent bone and legs. Vg overall condition. Feminine head and expression but eyes area bit bold. VG tail set. Good rear and side gait but needs to tighten in the front. 3rd Hussey’s Fullani Froya with DawnroI wonder if this girl would show better for someone other than her mum? Typewise, I must say I preferred her over #2, but, and it‘s a big one, she just was not happy in the class and wouldn‘t use her ears until after everyone was placed and the book was filled in! Excellent head properties, excellent bone and body, but must be careful not to put on anymore weight! Moves well. She is a shade longer in body than the class winner and topline was soft at times, but this again, could possibly be due to attitude? Special Yearling Bitch 1ST Sercombe’s Trelowen Dewhelansdoes she ever know she has a tail! Very happy, feminine compact girl with vg head and expression. Excellent eyes and ears and probably the best tail so far today. VG rear and side gait, not so pleasing in the front 2nd Purves Bulabs Kittiwate. feminine bitch with finer features. Excellent shoulders and forehand, but a bit short in rib and long in loin, so topline suffered at times. Excellent coat for texture and density.VG tail for set but would like to see a tighter curl. Excellent neckline, one of the best today. VG rear and side action. Another one who would perhaps show off her ears better in the outdoor ring. Novice Bitch 1st Stonton’s Chayanda Mystique 2nd Wallbank’s Rossfort Friday Fox for DewinI have to confess that I really wanted to put up this girl as I think she has tons of breed type and quality, but she just refuses to behave, so I feel for her owner! My notes say she has excellent breed quality but needs a lot more training, and wouldn‘t use her ears and tail to advantage. When you get your hands on her there is much to like in conformation and once she settles on the move she does so correctly, but it is at present a hit or miss affair. I hope her owner persists as she is too good to waste! Post Graduate Bitch 1st Deacon, Deacon & Cobb’s Knytshall Queri. well , you could have knocked me over with a feather if you had told me before this show that I would be putting up some blacks today. I must confess that I have never really been a fan of the black Buhund, perhaps because I only tended to see them in the summer time with no coat? In any event, this young bitch has excellent breed type, proportions, balance and has sufficient bone and body to do a day‘s work in the fields. Dark eye as one would expect with a black, feminine expression, excellent front and overall conformation, vg bone, legs and feet. Light but strongly muscled body with excellent depth of chest, excellent coat, vg tail and rear legs. VG side and rear gait. Reserve Best Bitch. 2nd Hunter’s Anna from Rossfort 5 yr. Old carrying too much weight and another one not using her ears to advantage. Has VG expression with dark eyes, and overall correct proportions of skull to muzzle. Has excellent forehand, but feet need attention and she tends to stands 10 to 2. VG coat for texture and density. VG rear quarters and this showed on the move with probably the best rear gait of the day. VG side gait when she settles 3rd Purves, Purves & Hearson’s Jumasue Wind Dancervery feminine expression, would just like more fill under darker eyes. Presents typical outline and balance.Lightly built girl with excellent forehand and shoulder. Has good front gait Limit Bitch 1st Knytshall Queri. 2nd Coleopy’s Bumil Bernadette at Fullani. 2 yr. Old bitch with VG outline. Would like a darker eye, but other than that has a very feminine and typical head and expression. VG front, body shape and proportions, topline soft at times. Excellent coat, tail with high set on. VG side gait. 3rd Stonton’s Noorabli Classic Sola at Chayanda. 5 yr old bitch with overall good head, ears well used. Coat is vg texture and density. She is a bit long in back and thus her topline is soft at times. VG tail set on but would like a tigher curl. Moves ok. Open Bitch A very good class to judge, thank you for bringing your champions out today!1st Coleopy’s Ch. Skadsemgaarden’s Freia Priskila at Fullani. in full winter coat and she looks a picture! Excellent quality throughout esp. in her head with such a lovely expression, reminding me of the Adoram examples of years gone by. Kind, frank expression with dark eyes of correct shape, excellent ears well used, she just shouts to you‘ breed type‘! For me, this is the ‘head of the day’. VG to go over in conformation, correct topline, well muscled body, excellent bone, legs and feet. Yes, she does need to work on keeping that tail up and I would like it higher set as well. On the move gives a good account of herself with light action , moving better than I have seen in some time. Best Bitch /Reserve Best in Show/Best Opposite Sex in Show. 2nd Sercombe’s Ch. Trelowen Aquilla. another quality bitch with much to like, having excellent body type and shape. VG front, legs, bone and feet. Feminine expression with well used ears, but would prefer a darker eye. Correct body outline and topline. Excellent tail. 3rd Purves, Purves & Hearson’s Ch. Rikarlo Skylark from Jumasue. correct lightly built throughout. Feminine expression with ears well used, but would like more fill under eyes to complete head proportions. High set tail but curl could be tighter. Has correct rear and side gait and another one in good coat today. Veteran Bitch 1st Sercombe’s Ch. Trelowen Stonty. 7 year old wolf sable with typical head and expression. Ears well used, dark eye. VG body shape and properties, with VG depth to chest and short loin. Excellent tail well set on. Excellent bone and feet. VG rear angulation. Moved with light true action. 2nd Deacon, Deacon & Cobb’s Knytshall Inka can this almost 14 year old girl show the youngsters how to do it! Nothing shy about this one who came in and just showed herself off a treat. Has VG head and ears are excellent. Correct neck, front and feet. Compact body shape. Tail well set on but curl is a bit loose. Is slowing down just a bit, but puts on a good account of herself, well done! Mary Deats (Judge) |
